Aberdeen Climate Action is running a conference on May 23rd, 2019, to help professionals transition to the clean economy.
We’re lucky in Aberdeen to have a highly educated population and the city is full of smart and talented people. However there are many professionals who work in oil and gas who would like to transition to clean technology but are not sure how. This conference is all about how to do it. There’ll also be networking opportunities with other like-minded individuals and examples from people who have already made the transition.
There are many reasons why someone may want to move from oil and gas and into clean technology. It could be for environmental reasons – we know burning fossil fuels is contributing to climate change and we know our emissions need to be zero to reverse the trend. It could be to lessen risk – a bubble is developing in the fossil fuel industry as investors move their money into cleaner technologies. Many people want to get out before it’s too late. It could for economic reasons – clean technology is an industry in rapid growth and there’s money to be made. There may be ethical reasons – we are all affected by the health-effects of air pollution caused by fossil fuels and many don’t want to be a contributing factor in that.
